What is a graphic designer?

A graphic or visual communication designer is a creative person who uses his or her talent, education, and experience to communicate messages through visual media. The resulting design may include but is not limited to a combination of text, color, illustrations, and photos. The designer’s role is to communicate a message that goes beyond the designer’s self-expression. A graphic designer should offer an effective solution to a visual communication problem, via the analysis of cultural, physical, social, and technical factors that will determine the success of a visual message.

What kind of graphic design services do you provide?

I offer a wide range of graphic design services for both print and digital media, including, but not limited to:

  • Logos, Branding, and Corporate Identity
  • Print Design, including Posters, Annual Reports, Advertising, Brochures, Catalogs, Direct Mail, Invitations, Newsletters, Magazines, Publications, Books
  • Web Design
  • Illustration
  • Packaging Design
  • Trade Show Graphics
  • Presentations and Interactive Applications using Adobe Flash
  • Bilingual Design (English and Spanish)
What is your design philosophy?

I think of design as focused communication (FC). FC should exist between the client and the designer from the beginning of any project. When the project is outlined, it should include an accurate definition of the goals, the audience, and the intended message. The result of the designers work should communicate that message to the audience in a focused manner, eliminating anything that could be superfluous or interfere with the core of the message. As a designer, I work to obtain results, not simply to make a pretty image.

What do you charge for your graphic design services?

Each project is unique in its specifications and I will work with you to define them. Before starting a project, we will discuss the details, and I will create a cost estimate and a timeline.

I understand that you may have a budget in mind, and I encourage you to let me know the figure so that we can work together to get the best possible product. The price is important, but clients who value professional design learn that quality design is a great investment for your business.

How do you bill?

I divide the total cost into three. The first third is due at the signing of the contract; the second once the final concept is approved; and the third is due before receipt of the final product. With new clients, I request an initial 50% deposit at signing and the balance before receipt of the product.

What types of payment do you accept?

Check, Paypal, and Venmo

How long will it take?

As with cost, the timeline depends on the project. I will create the timeline and contract after the initial meeting, and we will review it together to make sure it fits your needs. If outside services such as printing are needed, I will have to contact the printer to confirm the timeframe. I will provide you with regular updates and I always deliver the project on time. I do recommend that you avoid contacting me at the last minute to prevent extra charges for rush projects, though I will make every effort to accommodate your needs.

As the client, what is my involvement in the design process?

I involve you, the client, at every step of the process. I have created questionnaires to help define your goals, needs, and ideas. We will review these questionnaires and discuss the project in great detail at the initial meeting. I will request feedback from you at specific points in the timeline and offer variants for your selection. This is your project and I want you to understand the process and participate in it.

How do I check on the progress of my job during the design process?

When I prepare the contract with the cost estimates, I will also include a timeline broken down into different stages. I will ask you to review and approve the work at the end of each stage and will wait for your approval before continuing the work. I believe that following this schedule will keep you involved in the process and make certain that we continue to communicate well. Between these stages, you are always welcome to call or email me for updates.

How will I receive my design project once it is finished?

The completed project is yours once I receive the final payment. I can deliver it to you on CD or through email. I will also keep a copy of your project on file in case updates are needed or you lose your copy.
